Malaysia Emerges as Sole Asian Market to Draw Foreign Inflow Amid US$11 Billion Sell-off

by Wan Eizzul on April 12, 2026 at 11:30 am

KUALA LUMPUR, April 6, 2026 — Malaysia has emerged as a rare bright spot in the Asian equity landscape, becoming the only market among eight monitored regional peers to record net foreign inflows last week. According to a fund flow report by MBSB Investment Bank for the week ended April 3, 2026, foreign investors extended their net buying streak on Bursa Malaysia to a second consecutive week, recording RM98.5 million in net foreign inflows. This stands in stark contrast to the broader Asian region, where foreign investors executed a massive seven-week selling streak totaling US$11.68 billion.

Privasia to Build RM569 Million Data Centre in Bagan Datuk

by Mathaveswarry Sree Narayanan on April 12, 2026 at 9:36 am

KUALA LUMPUR, April 10, 2026 - Privasia Technology Bhd is set to transform Bagan Datuk, Perak, into a new frontier for digital infrastructure following the formalisation of a RM569 million engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) agreement. The project, a collaboration between Privasia subsidiary Silverstreams and Inspur Cloud Information Technology Co Ltd, aims to decentralise data centre development away from saturated hubs like the Klang Valley and Johor. Privasia executive deputy chairman Datuk Puvanesan Subenthiran noted that the move is strategic, ensuring resources are more accessible while driving socio-economic growth in northern Malaysia.Speaking at a press conference attended by Deputy Digital Minister Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, Puvanesan highlighted that the project has been in the works for two years and is now moving into the active construction phase. The EPCC contract serves as a milestone, shifting the venture from the planning stage to delivery to meet the rising global demand for secure, high-capacity digital storage. "When a place gets crowded, resources become harder to secure, and we did not want to build something with a limited socio-economic impact. We want this project to help drive development in the area,” Puvanesan explained. The first phase of the development will feature a capacity of 10.06 megawatts (MW) and is targeted for completion by the end of 2027. Operations are expected to go live shortly thereafter, either in late 2027 or early 2028. Privasia intends to operate the facility itself, and the company is currently in discussions with potential off-takers. The data centre is designed to provide high-availability telecommunications and cloud capabilities, including co-location, Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS).Looking ahead, the development of Phase 2 will be tailored to meet evolving technological trends and specific customer needs. Puvanesan expressed confidence in the partnership with Inspur, an established global player in the data centre industry, stating that their expertise was a key factor in the selection process. As construction ramps up, the project is expected to position Perak as a significant player in Malaysia’s growing digital economy.
